Every print decision we make from the materials we use to how we dispose of them has an impact. Within our industry in particular we are in a position to facilitate and nurture change.
Sustainability isn’t a trend. It’s a responsibility that applies to every project, every day. And as awareness continues to grow around the environmental footprint of printed materials, it’s more important than ever to think holistically about the lifecycle of your prints.
Whether you’re creating signage, packaging, or promotional materials, your printing choices can help reduce waste, extend product life, and signal your brand’s commitment to something bigger.

Eco-conscious printing begins with what you choose to print on. Using responsibly sourced paper, recycled stock, and low-impact inks helps minimize your environmental footprint from the very first step. Look for materials that are certified sustainable and avoid those that contribute to landfill waste.
Recycled paper requires about 60 percent of the energy used to make paper from virgin wood pulp.

Printed materials serve different purposes. Some make a quick impact, others are built to last. Both can be sustainable when designed thoughtfully. Short-term prints benefit from recycled or recyclable materials, while long-term pieces gain value through durability and reuse. Smart choices help your message and the planet go further.
Most paper is recyclable between five and seven times.

The end of a print’s life is just as important as its beginning. Choosing recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable materials — and making sure they’re disposed of properly — ensures that your sustainability efforts don’t stop when the job is done.
Recycling 1 ton of paper can save 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.

Made from recycled paper waste embedded with seeds
Seed paper is a special eco-friendly paper made from recycled paper waste embedded with wildflower, herb or vegetable seeds. When you plant this plantable cardstock in a pot of soil or outside in a garden, the seeds in the paper germinate and grow into plants.
Seed paper is made from recycled paper and isn’t coated or treated in any way so that it readily decomposes in soil. Once you plant it, the seeds will germinate as the paper itself biodegrades. All you have to do is keep it moist in a sunny spot and you’ll be able to watch it grow.
STEP 1: Plant seed paper about 1/8 inch deep in well-draining potting soil.
STEP 2: Water thoroughly until the soil is evenly moist. Avoid over watering to the point of pooling.
STEP 3: Make sure it gets plenty of sunlight and stays consistently moist during germination.
Today’s audiences value accountability. When your print materials reflect sustainable values, they don’t just represent your brand — they enhance it.
Eco-conscious printing can become a meaningful part of your brand story. It shows that your business cares about the details, and about the bigger picture. From reducing your environmental impact to boosting your credibility, printing sustainably is a decision that pays off in more ways than one.
Sustainable printing is about more than materials — it’s a mindset. A commitment to better practices at every stage of your print’s lifecycle. By thinking beyond the print job and considering its full journey, you’re helping to create a smarter, cleaner, and more responsible future.
So the next time you need business cards, banners, or anything in between, choose a printer that shares your values.
